Funke Akindele latest movie surpasses ₦1bn, establishes Box Office Records

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele’s recent film Behind The Scenes has surpassed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office, totaling ₦1,109,463,846. This achievement sets multiple records and cements its position as one of the most commercially successful films in Nigeria’s cinema history.

FilmOne Entertainment announced the milestone in a post on its X handle on Monday, describing the achievement as historic and unprecedented in the West African film industry.

FilmOne reports that Behind The Scenes has become the fastest film in West Africa to surpass ₦1 billion in earnings, and it achieved the highest single-day box office revenue on Boxing Day with ₦129.5 million.

“Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+,” the distributor said, adding that the movie also delivered “the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M).”

The company further announced that the film has emerged as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025 so far, maintaining strong momentum weeks after its cinema debut.

FilmOne also highlighted the record-breaking run of the film’s creative lead, Funke Akindele, noting that the latest success further extends her dominance at the Nigerian box office.

The distributor described Akindele as “the only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times” and “Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time.”

It added that she had also become “the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year,” a feat yet to be matched in Nollywood.

“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us,” FilmOne stated.

Behind The Scenes grossed ₦512 million within 12 days of its cinema release, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 at the time.

The movie had its advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before officially opening in cinemas nationwide on December 12. It went on to record one of the strongest opening weekends of the year, crossing the ₦200 million mark within days of release.

At the time, FilmOne described the performance as “the biggest opening weekend of 2025,” noting that the film also set multiple opening weekend records, including the highest weekend admissions recorded in the year.

“₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend,” the distributor said in an earlier update.

The film delves into the theme of black tax, focusing on the social and financial burdens experienced by those who support extended family members—a topic that has struck a chord with audiences.
