BNXN compares Lagos and Los Angeles living costs, says “Lagos is more expensive than Los Angeles”

After making a direct comparison between life in Lagos and Los Angeles, Nigerian artist BNXN (previously known as Buju) sparked online debate by claiming that living in Lagos can really be more expensive than living in the US.

BNXN noted how erratic everyday costs might be in Nigeria in contrast to the US while thinking back on his time overseas.

“Bust your head; I’m telling somebody… since I’ve been in America, nobody has asked me to give them back,” he said.

He went on to double down on his comparison, stating, “Do you know Lagos is super expensive? It’s more expensive than LA.”

According to the singer, the only real shocker in Los Angeles is the cost of housing, noting that monthly rent in prime areas can easily soar to $12,000.

His main contention, though, is that once your accommodation is taken care of, the daily "billing" and hectic expenses of Lagos life just disappear, making the city feel much more bearable.

Although many people agree with BNXN's remarks, they also draw attention to a prevalent argument over structured versus unstructured spending:

Basic utilities like water and alternate power sources (solar or diesel generators), private security, and increased transportation costs because of traffic and fuel shortages are frequently paid for out of pocket by residents. Additionally, rent is unpredictable and uncontrolled.
