AKSU ALUMNUS SAMUEL AKPAN NAMED THECABLE JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR 2025


Samuel Akpan, a graduate of the Department of Mass Communication at Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), has been named Journalist of the Year (JOTY) 2025 by TheCable. The award, announced on Thursday, recognises exceptional reporting, innovation, and dedication within the newsroom.

Akpan, who previously won TheCable’s innovation award in 2024, was celebrated for his originality, versatile storytelling, and excellence in political reporting throughout the year. His work stood out for its depth, clarity, and ability to engage audiences on critical national issues.

This recognition marks a major milestone in Akpan’s journalism career, highlighting his journey from a mass communication graduate to one of the country’s most respected journalists. Sharing the award with Jane frances Chibundu, Akpan joins a select group of reporters to receive the top honour at TheCable.

Simon Kolawole, founder and CEO of TheCable, praised Akpan for embodying the organisation’s values of excellence, innovation, and integrity in journalism.
