The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commenced formal preparations for its two thousand and twenty six party congresses, a process widely seen as an early step towards positioning the party for the two thousand and twenty seven general elections.
Governor Umo Eno announced the development on Friday, January two, two thousand and twenty six, during the New Year stakeholders meeting of the party held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo. According to the Governor, an implementation committee has been established to coordinate and oversee the congress process in collaboration with the state party leadership.
Addressing party leaders and members, Governor Eno emphasised the importance of cohesion and discipline within the party, urging stakeholders to remain united and focused on shared goals. He noted that internal harmony would be critical to the party’s success as preparations intensify for future electoral contests.
The Governor subsequently inaugurated a seven member congress committee. Prince Enobong Uwah was named Chairman, while Hon Dr Patrick Umoh will serve as Secretary. Other members are Hon Frank Archibong, Mr Nsentip Akpabio, Architect Ubokutom Nyah, Engr Uwem Okoko and Hon Mrs Owoideghe Ekpotai. The committee was mandated to engage broadly with party structures and ensure an inclusive and credible congress process.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who addressed the meeting, praised Governor Eno for fostering stability within the party and promoting a climate of peace across the state. He attributed the calm atmosphere recorded during the festive period to what he described as collective unity and purposeful leadership.
The Senate President described the Governor as a leader with vision and courage, adding that his decision to align with the APC was taken in the broader interest of Akwa Ibom State. He stated that the move had strengthened the party and enhanced prospects for sustained development. Akpabio also reaffirmed his personal and political support for Governor Eno, extending his commitment beyond the next election cycle.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the APC, Obong Stephen Ntukepo, expressed appreciation to the Governor for what he called his inclusive leadership style and consistent efforts to build consensus within the party. He described Governor Eno as a leader deeply committed to the welfare and unity of the people of Akwa Ibom.
Other party leaders who spoke at the meeting, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources for Gas, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Udeme Otong, Senators Emmanuel Ibok Essien and Effiong Bob, as well as Obong Nsima Ekere and the State Woman Leader of the APC, Obongawan Obonodo Uko, echoed similar sentiments. They commended the Governor’s stewardship of party affairs and his cooperative relationship with the Senate President, while pledging their continued loyalty and support on behalf of their constituencies.
