The Chairman House Committee on Information and member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Hon. Jerry Otu has admonished members of Ikot Ekpene Transition Committee to be committed to life touching and impactful programs for the best interest of the people.
Hon. Otu made the assertion while having in audience members of Ikot Ekpene Transition Committee in his office on Wednesday at the Assembly Complex, Uyo; according to him, the call is to engage in true empowerment programs and not a show empowerment programs in order to build strong holes and to promote the living standard of the people in the area. Speaking on the way forward to keep the system strong, he however advised the council members not to retire themselves in politics before the system retires them.
The Ikot Ekpene born Assemblyman louds the State Governor Umo Eno, as a pastor who lives by his name and who in his wisdom has assured to commission projects at Ikot Ekpene within the month to complement his 100 days in office.
Speaking further, the lawmaker also charged the council’s men to make way to take out vehicles from loading and uploading passengers from the main road to motor park to evade lost of lives; living by example, he added that he feels delighted working from his Ikot Ekpene country home daily as a town he's proud of, Hon. Jerry also added that the essence of hosting the gathering in his Uyo office is to make his people have a sense of belonging being the first ever meeting hosted by House of Assembly Member for Ikot Ekpene council members,
Forming a strong bond and unity within the constituency, the assemblyman called his People to hold him responsible if he does not bring development to Ikot Ekpene as the first experimental local government in west Africa including International Market, model school etc., making account of his stewardship so far, Jerry Otu who avowed to openness to everyone in his representation said that he has presented two human impactful motions at the floor of the house, while a Bill is underway,
Speaking earlier, the transition Chairman Hon. John Cleton Etim who was ably represented by the Vice Chairman Hon. Unyime Thomas Akpan said that the essence of the courtesy meeting was to foster synergy to signify unity that has existed as a family, dialogue to ensure a continuous coexistence. The chairman celebrated the lawmaker over his developmental strikes recorded in his constituencies within the short period at Ibiakpan, Civil Centre at Ikot Enwang, Obot Akara, lives touched and his open door policies and thereby pledges their loyalty.
The council helmsman said they have discovered youth restiveness in Ikot Ekpene to be caused by idleness and thereby resulted to undergo on youth training in entrepreneurial developments to reduced crime in the area by going from wards to wards to engage youths on training, taking bold step to refurbished Urua Ato, a common market in Ikot Ekpene where food stuff are sold and giving it a new look as well as evacuating debris from the gutters to stop erosion menace from rendering people homeless.
In a vote of thanks, the transition Committee Secretary Barr, Godwin Ituen in his speech described Hon. Otu as a grassroots man and assured him that “your second term bid to State House of Assembly will be a work over since you are a sellable material because your handiwork has already projected you, more over as a product of zoning and standing by the side of zoning will cause more enchantment”
