Afrobeats musician Tekno disclosed in a recent interview on Cool FM that he battled a throat problem from 2017 to 2019, which prevented him from singing or performing and ultimately required him to travel to the US for surgery.

The singer, songwriter, and music producer claims that because it occurred during the height of his career, it was a pivotal and difficult period.

"I was refunding so much money. I think I refunded over a million dollars in shows," Tekno said, narrating how he was forced to cancel bookings and also spend his own money fulfilling booking obligations after he had to pay a high cost for the surgery.

Speaking about the procedure, the musician disclosed that he couldn't acquire the necessary standard in Nigeria, so he had to traverse the world to find the proper specialist and ended up in New York.

One of the health issues that has negatively affected certain well-known celebrities at particular stages of their careers is Tekno's experience with throat disease.

Due to a hemorrhaged vocal cord, British singer Adele had to postpone her North American tour in 2011 in order to get laser microsurgery. Grammy-winning musician John Mayer also had to have surgery in 2011 to remove a granuloma from his vocal chords. This prompted him to take a long break, which completely changed the way he sang.

Tekno gained a new outlook on life by overcoming the obstacles and learning to be thankful and appreciative of his continued ability to create music.

The hitmaker, who dominated the 2010s with a slew of mega hit singles, discussed his most recent album, "Where Did Love Go," in an interview on Cool FM. The eight-track EP is full of his trademark genre-blending and song-shaping tunes.
