The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Obong Prince Ikim, has suspended the resource persons responsible for waste evacuation at Ibom Hall, IBB Way by the Children’s Home, Samlaw, Labour Congress, and the State Secretariat over negligence.
Obong Prince Ikim announced the suspension on Monday morning during a routine inspection conducted amid a heavy downpour.
He stressed that the prompt evacuation of waste is non-negotiable and reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and a cleaner environment.
The AKSEPWMA boss expressed disappointment over the poor sanitation observed in the affected locations, describing the negligence as unacceptable and contrary to the agency’s operational standards.
He warned that the agency would not tolerate any act capable of undermining its efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment across the state.
Obong Ikim also directed that immediate measures be taken to clear the accumulated waste in the affected areas and assured residents that the agency would intensify monitoring and efforts to ensure that the affected areas would be cleared immediately.
