Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says the state government will soon flag off the construction of a new Umuahia Stadium, designed as a stadium city to boost sports and economic development.
Governor Otti disclosed this while receiving Super Eagles player and Abia-born football star, Samuel Chukwueze, who visited him at Government House, Umuahia, to appreciate his support during the burial of his late mother.
The governor said land for the project has already been acquired and plans are underway to develop the facility into a sports city with hotels, housing estates, and other attractions.
Governor Otti also congratulated Chukwueze on his achievements in football and described him as a worthy ambassador of Abia State, assuring him of government support.
In his remarks, Samuel Chukwueze commended the governor for ongoing infrastructural development across the state, especially improvements in road networks, which he said have transformed Umuahia.
The football star also described the proposed stadium project as a major investment in sports development and pledged to support youth sports initiatives in the state.
