Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has reiterated its commitment to repositioning the tourism sector through improved internal operations, enhanced collaboration, and strategic reforms aimed at boosting service delivery and investment opportunities.
The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, made this known during a general staff meeting held on Tuesday, April 29, in Uyo.
The meeting, which brought together directors, senior officials, and support staff of the Ministry, focused on reviewing operational strategies, strengthening teamwork, and charting a clearer path for the advancement of tourism and cultural development in the state.
Addressing the staff, Dr. Udofia commended members of the Ministry for their dedication and contributions towards promoting the state’s tourism potential. He stressed that professionalism, innovation, and collective responsibility remain critical in achieving the Ministry’s objectives and positioning Akwa Ibom as a competitive tourism destination.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of improving operational systems across tourism agencies and private establishments, noting that efficient structures are necessary for sustainable growth within the sector. He also advocated for the adoption of modern technologies, improved staff commitment, and compliance with global best practices.
Speaking further, Dr. Udofia highlighted the need for stronger synergy between government institutions and private sector operators, explaining that effective partnerships would enhance visitors’ experiences, improve service quality, and attract greater investment into the state’s tourism industry.
He disclosed that the Ministry has already recorded significant progress in the first quarter of the year, including preparations for the 2026 Christmas Unplugged celebration, ongoing development of cultural heritage sites, and the strengthening of relationships with private sector stakeholders. According to him, efforts are also underway to digitize operations and improve transparency across departments.
The meeting featured an interactive session where staff members raised concerns and made recommendations on issues affecting productivity, including resource allocation, staff welfare, and capacity development. The Commissioner assured employees that their concerns would receive adequate attention and that practical solutions would be pursued to improve workplace efficiency.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Director of Tourism, Mrs. Christiana Enoch, who currently oversees the Office of the Permanent Secretary, gave updates on ongoing projects and departmental targets. She reiterated the Ministry’s determination to achieve measurable results in line with broader development objectives.
In his remarks on behalf of the directors, the Director of Accounts, Mr. Onofiok Nya, reaffirmed management’s commitment to maintaining an inclusive and motivating work environment for staff.
He encouraged workers to remain dedicated, proactive, and united in supporting the Ministry’s vision of driving tourism development and contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of Akwa Ibom State.
The Ministry noted that such engagements would now be held regularly to strengthen communication, improve productivity, and enhance institutional effectiveness within the tourism sector.
