Akwa Ibom State once again takes the lead in women-focused governance as the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare today begins a statewide Women Sensitisation Tour on civic responsibilities alongside the commissioning of Nigeria for Women Projects.
The tour, themed 'Women Arise,' will be flagged off today, Monday, January 26, 2026, with activities scheduled for Abak and Ikot Ekpene Local Government Areas.
In Abak, the programme will hold at the Independence Hall by 10am, while Ikot Ekpene will host the event at the Local Government Council Hall by 1pm.
The sensitisation tour is being driven by the Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, with the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi; the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki; and the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Inibehe Silas Etukudo, leading the engagement.
According to the ministry, the initiative is designed to deepen women’s understanding of their civic responsibilities while strengthening grassroots participation through targeted empowerment projects under the Nigeria for Women Programme.
After today’s flag-off, the sensitisation tour is expected to move across the remaining local government areas, covering all 31 LGAs of the state in the coming days.
