Ghana’s Empress Gifty beats Blacko and others to win Artiste of the Year at the 2025 GMA USA

A well-known gospel artist from Ghana, Empress Gifty has been awarded the coveted Artiste of the Year title at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards USA, where she emerged as the overall winner.
The prestigious occasion took place on August 16, 2025, at ACX1 Studios in Atlantic City, New Jersey, honoring Ghanaian musical talent in the U.S. and in Ghana.

Several Ghanaian artists based in the US, such as Jay Hover, C-Ben, Kay Rockz, and many others, received awards during the night. Special tributes were paid to the late Highlife legends Dada KD and Daddy Lumba, and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Empress Gifty herself, along with comedian OB Amponsah, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, and Kofi Kinaata, delivered electrifying performances at the ceremony.

The evening’s highlight was the announcement of the fiercely contested Artiste of the Year category, featuring some of Ghana’s biggest stars, including King Promise, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Fameye, KiDi, and King Paluta. The award ultimately went to Empress Gifty, despite the fierce competition.

The gospel star, accompanied by her husband and politician Hopeson Adorye, ascended the stage to accept the award, overwhelmed with emotion. She expressed heartfelt gratitude and dedicated the honour to her late mother, breaking down in tears.
She said, her voice quavering with feeling.

“I want to thank God, the media, and Kuami Eugene for supporting me with my hit song Watch Me.”

Her triumph was met with widespread celebration, as fans and well-wishers flooded social media with congratulatory messages, hailing her as a deserving winner.
