Following the publication of his song "Contour," Joeboy has received a copyright infringement complaint from Nigerian musician Bukola Elemide, better known by his stage name Asa.
Accusations of a copyright lawsuit originating from the composition of Joeboy's album were revealed in a letter issued by Asa's attorneys and to Joeboy, which he put on his Instagram Story.
Asa sought from Joeboy N300 million, a 60 percent publishing split on the song, a written apology, and the immediate removal of the music from all digital streaming services within 24 hours in a letter signed by her management.
"It has been brought to our attention that your recently released song, Contour (the "Song"), infringes on the copyright of our Client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the "Composition") that she created in a recording session on September 22, 2020, with the producer of the Song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (a.k.a. Tempoe), in attendance," the notice of infringement, which Joeboy shared, read in part.
"We hereby demand that you cease any further infringements of our Composition, including any other infringements, and promptly remove the Song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter."
In response, Joeboy commented on his Instagram story that he feels that people are drawn to him due to his quiet demeanor. He informed Asa's management that the 24-hour notice had passed and dared them to pursue any legal action.
Because I always do love and light, you believe I'm soft meat, he said. You claimed I had 24 hours; nonetheless, 48 hours had passed.
