Akwa Ibom State has been described as a state with phenomenal economic growth under various leadership since its creation in 1987.
The former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan made this known on Saturday during the State Banquet to mark the 35th Anniversary of Akwa Ibom State at Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo.
Dr. Jonathan accompanied by his wife Dame Patience, acknowledged the remarkable progress attained in the state over the years and commended Governor Emmanuel for expanding the frontiers of development laid by past leaders to move the State forward.
The former President who was the special guest of honour maintained that all hands must be on deck to sustain the development initiated by Udom Emmanuel's led administration, emphasizing on the need to support the succession plan of the governor as he winds down in office.
"I am delighted to be here to personally see the massive transformation that this state has witnessed The state has made remarkable progress within the period of 35 years.
"While I commend past leaders in the state, I must commend Governor Udom Emmanuel for his exemplary records in laying a good foundation for the sustainable development through the building of massive infrastructure and promoting economic diversification and industrialization despite being an oil producing State".
Earlier, the host, Governor Udom Emmanuel thanked the then Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) for creating the state and also acknowledged the contributions of past leaders in the state which has been instrumental to the progress made over the years.
Governor Emmanuel, accompanied by wife, Mrs Martha Emmanuel stated that within the past seven years of his administration remarkable impact has been made in attracting foreign direct investments, aviation development, health care, education, road infrastructure and also Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path initiative (FEYReP), which he noted has touched lives of youths and less privileged in the society.
"I want to thank our past leaders for their contributions which has taken us to where we are today, let me congratulate all those illustrious sons who have been honoured for their spectacular value added to our State and National growth you are truly our ambassadors.
“We have outline some of our projects earlier in this administration, those legacies of impact."
The Governor presented Ibom Productivity Order of Merit Awards to illustrious indigenes who distinguished themselves in various careers.
