Tinubu flew to Paris, France, to attend some crucial
meetings, according to a statement from his aide Tunde Rahman. He is soon to
return home.
Prior to leaving, he attended the official
inauguration of the legislative mentorship program and the public presentation
of the book "Mr. Speaker" in honor of Speaker of the House of
Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila's 60th birthday.
THIS occurred as the APC retracted claims made in a
leaked document that it spent N6.5 trillion to persuade voters in Tinubu's
favor.
In the document, it was claimed that outrageous sums
of money had been set aside for vote-buying and compromises of INEC employees,
security personnel, judicial personnel, and others.
Felix Morka, the party's national press secretary,
claimed in a statement that the tale was a fabrication by members of the
opposition party and contained not a shred of reality.
The APC wishes to state unequivocally that the
document is not of the party, he said, urging Nigerians to dismiss it. Such a
document was not created by us, we do not own it, and our party did not create
it. Unquestionably, the document was created by extremely ill PDP (Peoples
Democratic Party) members who were trying to discredit our party in order to
get an unfair election advantage.
"The document's creators made the absurd claim
that our party wants to use nearly half of the nation's entire 2022 budget to
buy votes in an ardent effort to smear us.
"How on earth does a government with a N17
trillion national budget distribute N6.5 trillion to rig elections? It
blatantly reveals the authors' profound ignorance of the intricate structures
and procedures involved in the acquisition and use of governmental funding.
"Our party is focused on giving Nigerians the
benefits of democracy in the hope that they would reciprocate by supporting and
voting for our candidates in the 2023 elections," the statement continued.
"As a law-abiding party, we have no need to do
any of the electoral fraud and malpractice outlined in that useless pamphlet.
"Only a party, like the PDP, which is a skillful
looter of the national purse, can even consider another capable of committing
in the kinds of horrific deeds the paper depicts."
Meanwhile, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, the deputy national
publicity secretary for the APC, received criticism from Prof. Rufai Alkali,
the national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), for his
invitation to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Ajaka had already asked Kwankwaso, the candidate for
the NNPP presidential nomination, to join the APC.
Alkali, on the other hand, said that the invitation
came from a drowning political party that was frantically trying to hang on to
life.
He claimed that Ajaka was unable to understand the
massive influx of APC and other party members into NNPP because he neglected to
research the state of the nation.
I won't be surprised if Ajaka comes on our doors in
the upcoming days asking for a place to stay, he said.
Alkali continued by saying that Nigerians have
subsequently voiced their displeasure with the APC and are seeking a reputable
alternative, which the NNPP provides.
