Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikono-Ini Federal Constituency, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Rep Ukpong Udo who addressed a mammoth crowd of supporters and friends in Ikono on 19 June, 2025, stated that the ongoing crisis in YPP "necessitated" his defection to the ruling APC.
According to Ukpong-Udo, the decision to defect was not taken lightly and was necessitated by the protracted crisis within the YPP, which has hindered the party's progress and unity. He cited his commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno's development agenda as a key reason for joining the APC.
"I have resolved today to officially join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This is not a decision taken lightly. It follows a season of sincere consideration, prayer, and wide consultation," Ukpong-Udo said.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that the defection would not affect ongoing empowerment programs and initiatives, including the distribution of Empowerment Cards, which remain valid until 2027. He also announced plans for an upcoming empowerment program valued at approximately N1 billion.
Ukpong-Udo expressed gratitude to his supporters and constituents, stating, "I remain forever indebted to your sacrifice and belief in me, particularly during the turbulent 2023 elections. I will never forget your unwavering support in the face of adversity."
Ukpong Udo popularly refer to as Macaire by supporters and friends is a second term House of Reps Member.
