African Women in Leadership Organisation (ALWO) has been commended for remaining true its tenet of self sponsorship to conferences, an exceptional attribute that makes the organisation unique.
Wife of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Patience Umo Eno gave the commendation when she played host to a delegation from AWLO and Patience Umo Eno Movement (PUEM) who paid her a courtesy visit on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Government House, Uyo
"AWLO is a place to be, it is a place to become. That is what I heard that made me enroll as a member. I was invited to a conference at Sheraton in Lagos many years back. I honoured the invitation, what I saw made me put down my name as a member. So far so good, particularly, what makes this organisation unique is the non-profit making aspect of it. Just like is stated in its mission statement, AWLO sponsoring itself or herself encourages her members on self sponsorship to conferences. People run organisations and when it is conference, they go about sending letters, begging everybody, every company, every politician but AWLO does not do that, we raise our money by ourselves, we do our things ourselves from within us and God has been helping us. That is the uniqueness for me as a person" she said.
Pastor Eno a long standing member of the organisation expressed gratitude to AWLO and PUEM for their support through out the electioneering period stating that the visit to her office signals the beginning of a new era.
"PUEM was birthed from AWLO and I place a lot of value on these two organisations. That leaves me to telling you a very big thank you because all this would not have been. Where we are now would not have been possible without your support, without your assistance, without you believing in us, pushing us with prayers, with everything you did and so on behalf of His Excellency, I tell you thank you. We are grateful, we are still fulfilling our pledges everywhere because we promised people who supported us that we would come back to say thank you. This visit today, will mark the beginning of another era."
The Governor's wife who said she had engaged the services of some members with others to be accommodated subsequently, however called on those considered for engagement to remain loyal and committed to their assigned roles and responsibilities.
The Founder and President of AWLO, Dr Elisha Atai stated that their visit was to celebrate their own Pastor Patience Eno and by extension her husband, Pastor Umo Eno for emerging as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State while pledging continuous solidarity to ensure the success of her programmes.
Dr. Atai described that the Governor's wife as an African woman of worth who has remained a strong support base of AWLO for over twelve years, noting that the organisations decision to make her the first Life Patron of ALWO was not misplaced.
He informed the First Lady that AWLO is planning an "Akwa-Cross Women and Youth Summit" that will start in Cross River State and subsequently hold in Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.
In their separate address, the Secretary- General and Legal Adviser of AWLO, Barr. Emem Ette, the AWLO Vice President, Pastor Victory Ebong, the President of PUEM, Obongawan Mary Umanaette and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Linda Umoh applauded the Governor's wife for the positive impact she has made in the lives of Akwa Ibom people especially the children, youth and women barely few months in office and expressed readiness to partner with her to deliver on her programmes for Akwa Ibom people.
The Governor's wife was presented with of the organisations sashes, uniform and gifts.
