PRESIDENT of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has emphasized that the people of Nigeria are the primary focus of the 10th National Assembly.
Akpabio made the remark on Friday during his opening speech at the two-day retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly taking place at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene.
Commending the National Institute For Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and the Konard Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) for their collaborative efforts in organizing the retreat, Senator Akpabio stressed that the retreat was a critical national initiative aimed at identifying ways to better serve the Nigerian people.
He informed that the leadership of the 10th National Assembly is resolved to continue passing key motions and other legislative initiatives to address pressing economic challenges in the country.
The former Akwa Ibom Governor went on to highlight some of the achievements of the 10th National Assembly, including legislative and oversight successes that have resulted in transparency, accountability, and the increased efficiency of government institutions.
He stressed that the National Assembly will continue to collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the sake of national unity and progress, and that the National Assembly remains resolute in its pursuit of progress and a brighter future for all Nigerians.
Our Correspondent reports that the retreat was declared open by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who was the Special Guest of Honour.
It had in attendance the Chief of Staff to the President; Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor of Akwa Ibom State; Pastor Umo Eno and Deputy; Senator Akon Eyakenyi.
Others include; the Speaker, House of Representatives; Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, principal officers of the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as some former Senate presidents and House of Representatives speakers.
