Nigeria Labour Congress Suspends Nationwide Demonstrations

The large-scale protests that took place around the country on Wednesday were the first to be seen under President Tinubu's government since he took office in May.

Despite the size of the protests and the removal of the National Assembly gate, they were apparently nonviolent, indicating the organized labor's responsible behavior and willingness to using peaceful means to voice their concerns.

The administration has made some compromises, such as creating a committee to study the minimum wage in order to address concerns about employees' compensation. A key bone of disagreement for the unions has been the increase in fuel prices, thus steps will also be taken to give palliatives to lessen the effects.

Although organized labor has put an end to the demonstrations, Osifo emphasized that the unions would closely watch how the administration carried through these commitments. The strike can resume if the administration doesn't keep its promises.
