Ohanaeze laments the passing of Abia State PDP Gov. candidate, Uche Ikonne

The Abia State Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) governorship candidate, Professor Uche Eleazar Ikonne, passed away, and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed its sorrow.

Ikonne passed away at 67 years old.

Ohanaeze offered comfort to Okezie Ikpeazu, the state governor, following Ikonne's passing.

The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, lamented Ikonne's passing while praising his admirable and exceptional qualities while he was still living.

The pan-Igbo group recognized Ikonne's enormous achievements, innovative ideas, and exceptional leadership in the South East's stability, academic growth, and the medical profession.

His "calm temperament gained him multiple positions, including [as] Rector Abia State Polytechnic Aba, 7th Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University Ututu, and the PDP ticket for the Abia guber elections," according to Isiguzoro.

Ohanaeze lamented the fact that Ikonne passed away just when Abia state's governor Okezie Ikpeazu's government required his broad and rich knowledge, high thoughts, and wise counsel to "consolidate countless tremendous enormous steps achieved in the past seven years in Abia state."

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on the Government of Abia State to immortalize late Professor Ikonne for his patriotism and unfathomable sacrifices," says a statement from Isiguzoro. 

The new Government House ought to bear the deceased's name. We also wish to use this platform to urge the state government to give this wonderful man the final grave he deserves in recognition of his selfless contributions.

In response to the shocking passing of "this respectable Igbo leader," the top Igbo group offered consolation to the Ikonne family, the PDP in Abia State, the administration, and the residents of Abia State.
