Elon Musk under investigation over Twitter purchase

In connection with his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, Elon Musk is the subject of a federal probe.

The information was revealed in a court document about the most recent of several ongoing legal battles between the billionaire and the social network that was made public on Thursday.

The filing stated that he was being investigated, although it was unclear what the probe was centered on.

The business stated in the court document that "this game of 'hide the ball' must end."

A request for comment from Mr. Musk did not receive a prompt response.

Twitter, which sued Elon Musk in July to pressure him to finalize the purchase, claimed the Tesla CEO's attorneys had invoked "investigative privilege" in order to withhold the information it needed.

Additionally, it claimed that despite its months-long requests, Mr. Musk's counsel had not turned up any of their correspondence with federal officials.

Late in September, Mr. Musk's lawyers delivered a "privilege log" listing the documents that would be withheld.

The log contained references to email drafts sent on May 13 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the American regulatory body responsible for upholding the anti-market manipulation legislation.

Additionally, it made reference to a slide presentation given to the Federal Trade Commission, whose main duties include advancing antitrust regulations and consumer safety.

The court application was submitted on the same day that the court approved a lawsuit moratorium so that Mr. Musk and Twitter could finalize their acquisition agreement.
