Only one month remains until the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, and the nominations for this year's ceremony, which were released on Tuesday, are led by Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X. (July 26).
The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are
only a month away and Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X all lead this
year’s show in nominations, which were announced on Tuesday (July 26).
The three rappers have received a
total of seven nominations, with Lil Nas X and Harlow each receiving
nominations in five categories for their hit song "Industry Baby."
Lamar has received nominations for "Family Ties" and "N95,"
two of his music videos, in the category of Best Cinematography. With six each,
Doja Cat and Harry Styles equal for second place with their number of
nominations. Following with standout performances in five categories are
several VMA veterans, including Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran,
Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd.
Although Lil Nas X and Harlow
have received the most nominations overall, they face stiff competition for the
prestigious Video of the Year honor. Two of the most recognizable visuals from
the year, Doja's "Woman" and Styles' "As It Was," are also
mentioned. They will compete against Swift's "All Too Well" (10
Minute Version) (Taylor's Version), Sheeran's "Shivers," and Drake's
"Way 2 Sexy."
On Sunday, August 28, the MTV
Video Music Awards will make a comeback to Newark, New Jersey's Prudential
Center. Sebastian Maniscalco, a comedian and actor, presided over the ceremony
in the Garden State in 2019. The previous year's broadcast took place at
Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
